19th August 2018
Windsurfing: Felixstowe Manor end
Wind Direction: WSW
Wind Stength: 17-20kts
Surf / Sea State: Bumpy
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: cloudy
Max Speed: 26.86 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 13.24 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Arrived late to see several sailors out, wind x off, a little dodgy on the inside, and everyone suggested 6.5 for heavy weights. Started rigging that but noticed one or two were struggling when a gust died. Wind was strong out, but changed to 7.2 as I think I would av struggle to get off the beach. Plugged 7.2 Goya MK Pro to the Goya 135 Bolt, which was the perfect combo. The wind died almost completely - as I was about to launch - kiss of death! I only had a couple of hours, so needed it back quick.
Thankfully after 20 mins game on. Most had a great time hammering back in. Chased Andy M and Pete M but didn’t make up any ground on the as they were too quick. It was lumpy and not great going out if you stayed too high and hit the lumps full on. Some waves rolled in 3 or 4 in sequence, forcing spinouts sometimes. Sailed high going out, to gain ground, hammering back for the GPS. The 7.2 was at its limit in the gusts set to manufacturer’s dims, so 20kts is max. The Goya is a rotational sail, yet I used a RRD Firewing 7.0, 4 cam sail in 30kts and it wasn't over powered! If only cam sails were easy to water start! The board is still not balanced, as I haven't been sailing much to set it up. I dug in the back of waves on the downwind drag cos the mast foot is still a tad too far forward, as I have been moving it back a cm each time. I need to raise the pitch of the board as it’s very flat, so flying on the fin, I can clear the next wave. Nearly had an almighty crash at speed, when it dug in. Sold my 125 Bolt which would have been good out to sea in the 20kt winds, but wallow nearer shore.
The 135 glide thru much better, but was a little big in the lumps. Loads of runs at 26.xx kts Maxing at 26.86kts. Any deeper angle and it digs in, so need to correct that, also running a 46cm today was too big and my 44cm was on the sold bd. Bought Pete G old GT31 as mine died, but its 1.3x version software, don’t have speed genie or auto save as 1.4xx so had to get days data off trip meters tiny fonts. Hope to update that.
Great day at the Manor, the Bolt can go anywhere in open sea and wind. I could go as low as I wanted and get back up in a run, it points very high. Still experimenting with strap positions. Its still inboard for comfort, but I know the extra ½ kt is in the outer straps, so need to fix that. I now have a nice setup, just need tweaking. Made it to kiddie’s party a little late, had time for sauna and festivities at Ipswich Maritime day, now knackered!
